UPDATE: On Nov. 14, the men found dead in a South Carolina motel room were identified as Texas residents Jose Gomez, 43, and Alvaro Hinojosa, 33. No “significant” trauma was found on their bodies, and an investigation into their deaths is ongoing, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office wrote in a news release.

The original story is below.

Cries for help led deputies to discover two bodies in a motel room, South Carolina officials said.

A third man found in the room was taken to a hospital with minor injuries Wednesday, Nov. 13, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

Mystery lingers in the men’s deaths, which are being considered “suspicious,” the Greenville County Coroner’s Office told WHNS.

“The investigation is still in its early stages,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “Further information will be released once we learn more information, including the manner and cause of death.”

First responders were called at about 9:45 a.m. to a Budget Inn motel in Greenville. After people were heard yelling for help, deputies at the scene reported finding the two men dead and the third man injured.

McClatchy News reached out to the hotel, but the person who answered the phone declined to comment.

“Video from the scene shows the glass window to the room was broken and investigators say it appears the glass was broken from the inside,” WYFF reported.

In an email, a sheriff’s office spokesperson told McClatchy News the department won’t release additional details, pending an autopsy. McClatchy News is awaiting further information from the coroner’s office.
