Trio beats 71-year-old with walking stick over hunting land dispute, Georgia cops say
A 71-year-old man was beaten with a walking stick in a dispute over hunting land, Georgia cops say.
Now, a father, his son and another teen are charged in the violent attack.
Rob Smith, Jr., 55, of Ambrose; Dillon Smith 18, of Ambrose; and Carter Holley, 17, of Douglas, were arrested Wednesday, Nov. 6, on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and exploitation of an elder person, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Holley is also charged with making terroristic threats, agents said.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to look into the Nov. 4 attack in Ambrose, according to a Nov. 6 news release.
Investigators said they learned the trio assaulted the man after a disagreement over hunting land.
Special Agent Jason Seacrist said the men knew each other prior to the attack.
“During the assault, the three men repeatedly punched, kicked, and hit the victim with a walking stick,” the GBI said.
The victim, who wasn’t named, was treated at a hospital and released, Seacrist told McClatchy News.
Agents said their investigation is ongoing.
Ambrose is about a 130-mile drive southeast from Macon.
