Teen plunges 30 feet down cliff, lands on ledge in New Hampshire park, rescuers say
A teenager plunged 30 feet down a cliff before landing on a ledge in New Hampshire, rescuers said.
The 15-year-old fell from a landing onto a perch in the rock at Rock Rimmon Park around 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, the Manchester Fire Department told several news stations.
The perch was about 30 feet above the ground, WMUR reported.
“The boy was conscious and breathing when rescuers reached him,” NBC Boston reported.
Rescuers set up a rope system to lower him to the ground, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported.
The rescue took about 20 minutes and he was taken to a hospital, the stations reported.
Rock Rimmon is a 140-acre park against the backdrop of a granite cliff that’s popular with locals, according to the city of Manchester website.
Visitors can take a short hike to the 150-foot summit, view the Uncanoonuc Mountains and their foothills, and have a picnic at the top of the cliff, the website says.
Manchester is about a 20-mile drive south from Concord.
