A North Carolina lottery player scored a huge prize — but hasn’t claimed it yet.

Now, time is running out, as the winning $156,000 ticket expires in a few days on Tuesday, Oct. 8, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.

“Search everywhere you keep your tickets and double-check any you have to see if you have the winning ticket,” Mark Michalko, executive director of the lottery, said in an Oct. 1 news release. “We hope that whomever purchased this ticket comes forward to claim their prize soon so we can celebrate their big win with them.”

Months ago, the lucky player hit the jackpot in the Carolina Cash 5 game. The person’s ticket matched all the numbers picked in the April 11 drawing, making it worth $156,060.

The winning numbers: 1-4-7-39-43

The ticket was sold at the H Mart on Forest Hills Road in Wilson, a roughly 50-mile drive east from Raleigh. It beat 1-in-962,598 odds to score the game’s top prize.

In North Carolina, winners of drawing games have about six months to cash in on their prizes. But as the deadline approached on Oct. 2, the lucky ticket holder hadn’t come forward yet, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.

“To claim the prize, the ticket must be presented at lottery headquarters in Raleigh by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8,” officials wrote in their news release.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
