A Powerball ticket bought in California was one number shy of winning the jackpot, but still won over $1 million, officials say.

The ticket matched five numbers in the drawing on Saturday, Aug. 31, but not the Powerball, according to California lottery officials.

As such, the player didn’t get to take home the $69 million Powerball jackpot, but their ticket was still worth $1,176,502. Following another drawing with no winner, the jackpot is estimated to grow to over $72 million.

The player, who bought their ticket at Romey’s Liquor Store in Woodland, was the only player to match 5 numbers in the latest drawing, according to Powerball officials. Those numbers were 4, 34, 35, 38 and 69, and the Powerball was 19.

According to California officials, there were over 50,000 winning Powerball tickets sold in the state, and the second biggest prize won was $28,205.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT POWERBALL

To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
