A 14-year-old boy was stabbed while trying to protect his mom, Washington officials said.

Branson Luck, 22, is accused of entering a home in Longview and stabbing a 31-year-old woman, according to a March 13 Facebook post by police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Luck in front of the home with “blood on his hands and pants,” and he was detained, police said.

The woman’s 14-year-old son intervened and was also stabbed, officers said.

The woman and her son suffered severe but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers later found the “knife used in the stabbing,” police said.

“It’s unsettling because we have a lot of walkers and dog walkers in the mornings,” Mike Pederson, the head of neighborhood watch in the area, told KPTV. “People are still talking about it.”

Luck was also identified as the suspect in an attempted armed robbery that occurred 10 minutes before 911 was called about the stabbing, officials said.

The victims involved in the attempted robbery were not injured, police said.

Luck was booked into the Cowlitz Corrections Department on charges of assault and an assault with deadly weapon, according to jail records.

Longview is about a 120-mile drive southwest of Seattle.
