Stunning videos show a pair of elusive predators trudging through deep snow in southwestern Colorado.

The photographer’s urgency to document the special moment is palpable in the video. Mario Angeles spotted the Canadian lynx near Silverton over the weekend, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a Jan. 8 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Silverton is about 100 miles southeast of Grand Junction.

The video shows what appears to be an adult lynx carefully leading a smaller lynx through the snow as more snow falls around them.

“Majestic moments in the mountains,” officials said, adding the sighting “is a dream for so many” because lynx are so rarely spotted in the wild.

After reintroducing lynx to the San Juan Mountains in the ‘90s, Colorado Parks and Wildlife has tracked rebounding populations there for a decade, officials said. Data shows the population is “holding steady between 150 and 250 animals.”

Lynx can be so rare, some wildlife photographers dream of encountering them for years, McClatchy News previously reported.

Viewers were delighted to see the pair going about their lives in the video.

“Stunning creatures,” someone said.

Someone else questioned whether the pair in the video was a mother with her baby.

“Amazing, they are so beautiful!” they said.
