Son shoots 67-year-old mother in the chest at nursing home, West Virginia cops say
A man is accused of shooting his 67-year-old mother at a nursing home in West Virginia and fleeing the scene, deputies said.
James Steed Biddell of Chillicothe, Ohio, faces charges of attempted murder, malicious wounding and wanton endangerment, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said in an Oct. 23 news release.
Deputies responded to a call at the Trinity Healthcare Services nursing home at around 5:15 p.m. Oct. 23, according to the release. They learned Biddell’s mother was shot in the chest and the 44-year-old had fled, deputies said.
She was airlifted to a hospital and is in stable condition, according to the release.
While arriving at the scene, deputies said they received notice that state troopers had stopped a silver Chevrolet truck matching the description of Biddell’s on U.S. Route 119.
Troopers arrested Biddell, and he was taken to Southwestern Regional Jail to await arraignment, deputies said. He was also charged with use or presentation of a firearm during commission of a felony, according to jail records.
Information regarding Biddell’s legal representation wasn’t immediately available as of Oct. 26.
A motive for the shooting is unclear at the time. McClatchy reached out to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office but did not immediately receive further details.
Logan County is in southern West Virginia about 40 miles east of the Kentucky border.
