Earthship house for sale has out-of-this-world wow factor. Check out New Mexico home
Houses known as earthships aren’t new to the real estate market, but they’re becoming more popular thanks to living sustainably. This particular one on the market for $359,000 in Tres Piedras, New Mexico, seems to outdo them all.
Called a “colorful jewel of an earthship,” the one-bathroom, one-bathroom home comes with an assortment of impressive features, but nothing beats the drop-dead gorgeous views of the desert sky and the mountains in the distance, the photos show.
Features of the 1,400-square-foot property include:
Custom tile mosaics
Bespoke kitchen island with wheels
Flagstone floors
Built-in bedroom headboard
Skylights
Dog pen
“Ready to live off the grid and ditch high utility bills?” the listing on Zillow.com asks. “No electric bill as the house runs on 1.5 kilowatts of solar panels with batteries. Passive solar heating with a small wood stove and gas heater for backup.”
But what about the water situation?
“Water is catchment off the roof held in a 5000 gallon cistern. Solar hot water heater with propane back-up on demand. Conventional septic system. Washing machine. Clothes line outside,” the listing says. “Add to the planters for food and flowers in both the living area and bedroom area currently growing tomatoes, geraniums, bougainvillea, rosemary and ivy.”
There is also a refrigerator and stove — but no oven.
The bathroom also has a unique look and a bathtub that’s large enough to fit two people.
Tres Piedras is about 80 miles north of Santa Fe.
