A rare white bison has been born at a southern Utah resort, and now she needs a name.

The calf made her debut March 31 at the Zion White Bison Glamping and RV Resort, the resort wrote on an April 2 Facebook post.

“Fresh from heaven,” the resort wrote. “We are so excited for this beautiful white bison calf to join the family.”

Now, the resort is asking folks on social media to help name the calf.

People can vote for the names Willow, Snowflake, Fluffy, Bright Moon and Sakar, meaning sweet. Facebook users can comment which name they prefer in the post above.

To Native American tribes, the birth of a white bison is “revered and held sacred,” McKell Davis, a spokeswoman for the resort, told St. George News.

“If that happened, they had a ceremony; it was this very special thing,” Davis told the newspaper.

The birth of a white calf is considered good “omen”, as it happens in the “most unexpected places and often happens among the poorest of people,” according to the National Park Service.

“The birth is sacred within the American Indian communities, because it brings a sense of hope and is a sign that good times are about to happen,” NPS said.

In addition offering “glamping” in lodges styled like pioneer wagons near Zion National Park, the resort also functions as a “sanctuary for these rare white bison,” according to the resort.

“We have a strong commitment to preserving these rare sacred animals,” the resort said.
