He didn’t answer ‘mysterious call’ — but it was about his big Michigan lottery win
A 56-year-old Michigan man noticed someone was calling, but he chose not to answer his phone because he didn’t recognize the number.
But unlike an unwanted spam call, this was a call worth answering.
“Later that night, I was checking my email and saw a message from the Lottery saying that I had won $100,000,” the Washtenaw County man, who was not named, told Michigan Lottery officials. “As soon as I saw that, I remembered the mysterious call and listened to the message that was left.”
His name had been pulled from a random drawing as part of the $300,000,000 Diamond Riches Second Chance game on Aug. 31, according to an Oct. 3 news release from the Michigan Lottery. He earned drawing entries by scanning his non-winning Diamond Riches tickets on the lottery app.
“I am not sure I got an hour of sleep that night, I was so excited that I had won,” he said in the news release. “First thing the next morning, I called the Lottery to schedule my appointment to claim the prize!”
He plans to save his prize money, according to the news release.
Washtenaw County is in southeast Michigan, near Detroit and home to Ann Arbor.
