Strangers pull 10-year-old from rushing creek after dad gets knocked down, CO cops say
A family tubing trip ended with strangers pulling a 10-year-old to safety, Colorado deputies said.
Two 10-year-olds were tubing with their dad on Sunday, June 12, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said. The dad was waiting to catch the kids downstream, but they knocked him down because they had so much force.
“The children arrived with significant force, knocking the father down and continuing to float past,” deputies said in a news release. “One child fell out of her tube near the shore and was rescued by bystanders.”
The second child was swept away from his family to the opposite side of the creek, deputies said.
The child who fell out of the tube was injured, and firefighters helped get her to a hospital, deputies said. The other child was reunited with his family.
Deputies did not publicly disclose the dad or children’s names.
The family was tubing at LaVern M. Johnson Park in Lyons, about 40 miles north of Denver.
The city park includes a Whitewater Park, which is popular for kayakers and tubers.
