An Idaho Airbnb ranks among people’s most desired stays — and it’s not the big potato
People really want to stay at an Idaho Airbnb this summer — and it’s surprisingly not the big potato.
A former fire lookout in Fernwood ranks among Airbnb’s most-desired places to stay this summer, the company said.
People on Airbnb can add a home to a wishlist if they hope to stay there later, perhaps for a future vacation. On May 19, Airbnb rounded up its top 10 “most wishlisted” stays across the U.S.
“To kick the list off at No. 10, this deep-forest getaway is an immersive nature experience complete with sunset views from above the treetops,” Airbnb said “The former fire lookout sits along the tamarack-lined slopes of Crystal Peak and provides plenty of great hiking and wildlife viewing.”
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom lookout costs about $300 a night. It was built in 1959 and was originally in Washington on Stranger Peak. It was moved to North Idaho in 1983 and remodeled in 2018. The lookout is nestled among 13 acres of woods.
“The lookout is open year-round with a wood-fired stove to keep warm at night or heat your morning coffee,” the listing said. “A wood-fired sauna sits below to relax and rejuvenate your body after a big hike or snowshoeing adventure.”
In 2021, another Idaho Airbnb stay topped people’s wish lists: a 28-foot Russet Burbank potato.
The 6-ton potato near Boise was repurposed into a one-bedroom mini hotel. Before it became a hotel, the potato traveled to 48 states for seven years. It was part of the Idaho Potato Commission’s Big Idaho Potato Tour.
It has one bedroom, one bed and one bathroom, and it sits on 400 acres of Idaho farmland south of downtown Boise. It costs $207 per night to stay in the spud.
“There is also a customized silo turned into a spa retreat perfect for soaking while looking up at the stars,” the listing said. “For an extra dose of cuteness, The Big Idaho Potato Hotel comes with the cutest Jersey cow in the world, who will be your fuzzy pet for the stay.”
Airbnb didn’t say how many people added the Idaho stays to their wishlist, but both places are nearly fully booked for the summer.
