Watch Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright charm fans with song as MLB lockout ends
Update: The players union reached a new collective bargaining agreement with Major League Baseball on March 10, multiple media outlets reported, which means the 99-day lockout is over and the regular season, which was set to start on March 31, will now begin on April 7.
Players are set to report to Spring Training as early as this weekend, CBS says.

Players and fans alike are frustrated with the ongoing Major League Baseball lockout, and while cursing out the sky has its merits, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright found a different way to use his voice to express his thoughts on the mess.
After failing to come to agreement with the Major League Baseball Players’ Association on March 9, MLB officials canceled the second week of the 2022 regular season, thus darkening the already pitch-black cloud that looms over America’s once national pastime.
Players like Noah Syndergaard and Max Scherzer took to Twitter to vent their anger in short bursts toward MLB, but Wainwright decided to share his thoughts through song. .
His rendition of Little Texas’ “What Might Have Been” is drawing rave reviews.
“To all of The fans out there...I can’t wait to get back out there for y’all,” the fan-favorite tweeted. “Hopefully soon! Anyways, I heard this song today and it reminded me of our situation. So... this is to you @MLB”
Folks were simply transfixed.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred canceled the first week of the season on March 1, then lowered the boom on the second week on Wednesday, which will make the start of the 2022 season — if there is one — the latest since 1995, ESPN reported.
“Because of the logistical realities of the calendar, another two series are being removed from the schedule, meaning that Opening Day is postponed until April 14th,” Manfred said in a statement, the New York Times said.
MLBPA responded with their own statement, calling the cancellation “completely unnecessary.”
“Players want to play, and we cannot wait to get back on the field for the best fans in the world. Our top priority remains the finalization of a fair contract for all players, and we will continue negotiations toward that end.”
According to ESPN, the road block for this round of talks was a disagreement over the proposal of an international draft.
The lockout started in December after the collective bargaining agreement, which was signed 2017, expired.
Wainwright’s voice is smooth and soothing, and perhaps offers a sliver of hope that the lockout won’t kill the season.
Regardless of the outcome, the three-time All-Star, World Series champion and two-time Gold Glove winner can add singing to his list of impressive talents.
