A woman was found dead by firefighters after a tree crashed into a Maryland home, officials said.

Area fire departments responded to a home in Crofton on the evening of Feb. 22 and found that a large tree had come through the back of the two-story house.

Firefighters said the tree caused “extensive structural damage,” especially to the second-floor bedroom, according to a release from Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

According to the release, one person was not accounted for in the house and was last seen in the second-floor bedroom.

After officials stabilized the area, the release said, a woman was found and removed after about an hour and 45 minutes.

She was pronounced dead on the scene, the release said.

It’s not clear what caused the tree to fall.

Crofton is about 10 miles west of Annapolis.
