Pumpkin spice, eh? Kraft’s fall-flavored mac and cheese gets its first test in Canada, US
Pumpkin spice lovers, rejoice!
Kraft Heinz is putting a fall-inspired spin on its boxed dinners with the launch of a new pumpkin spice mac and cheese, the American company announced Tuesday.
The meal comes with dry macaroni noodles and a pumpkin spice “flavor boost” packet to add to the cheese powder, CNN reported. To top it off, a sprinkle of cinnamon and other spices is included.
“Ever wondered what [Kraft Dinner] with Pumpkin Spice would taste like?” Kraft said. “Like if your mac and cheese had hints of cinnamon, dashes of allspice and layers of ginger, nutmeg and cloves all slathered in KD cheese? Probably not, but we made it anyways.”
Initially, the product was only available in Canada and mac lovers hoping to sink their teeth in the cheesy-pumpkin goodness had to put their names on a waiting list. McClatchy News confirmed Wednesday that Kraft also has plans to roll out the fall flavor in the U.S.
“After seeing the huge response Pumpkin Spice Mac & Cheese received north of the border, and even hearing some heated debates about it down here, we had to bring it to the U.S. for Americans to try,” Martina Davis, brand manager for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, said in a statement. “Who knows? Maybe it could become a new North American fall favorite.”
Pumpkin spice lovers can enter to win a box of the limited-edition mac and cheese by using hashtag #PumpkinSpiceKMC #Sweepstakes and tagging @KraftMacNCheese on Twitter. Only 1,000 lucky recipients will be chosen.
News of the new fall-flavored dish drew mixed reactions online.
“Please tell me this is a joke...” one user commented responded to the company’s Facebook post.
“I signed up, cause you can’t knock it till you try it,” another wrote.
Others wanted to know “literally who asked for this???”
Kraft joins a number of other food brands debuting pumpkin spice products to kick off fall. Aside from Starbucks’ wildly popular pumpkin spice latte, consumers can also get their hands on pumpkin-spice Cheerios, Twinkies, Milano cookies and SPAM (yes, that SPAM), according to Chowhound.
