Redskins gear pulled by Nike, Walmart and Target — and Twitter users have a lot to say

Large retailers, including Walmart, Target, Nike and Dick’s Sporting Goods, have announced that they will stop selling Washington Redskins merchandise as the team considers a name change, Business Insider and other outlets reported on Monday.

“Given today’s announcement by the NFL and the Washington team’s ownership, we are discontinuing the sale of items that reference the team’s name and logo,” Walmart tweeted on Friday.

The reaction on social media was mixed, especially on Twitter, where even President Donald Trump voiced his displeasure with the retailers pulling merchandise with the famous logo, McClatchy reported. Many Twitter users were pleased, while others weren’t thrilled with the retailers’ decision and called it hypocrisy. Even a few users who said they are of Native American descent shared their thoughts.
