Jeff Bezos to rename Seattle arena to Climate Pledge Arena. People have mixed feelings

Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest person and can spend his money anyway he likes, such as purchasing the naming rights to Seattle’s KeyArena.

Bezos said instead of renaming it Amazon Arena, after his cash cow, it’s going to be called Climate Pledge Arena, saying Thursday on an Instagram post that it’s being done “as a regular reminder of the urgent need for climate action,” The News Tribune reports.

Shortly after it was announced and posted on social media, Twitter users had mixed reactions the the renaming of the arena that will be used by Seattle’s new NHL franchise and the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, the News Tribune reports.

“Let’s get onboard with calling it #thegreenhouse,” tweeted @leehudson.

“I mean it’s better than Taco Bell Arena, Smoothie King Arena, and so many more,” said @bryanmwatson.

“Unfollowed. Climate change is a fraud!” tweeted @noonan4123.

“How about “The Climate is Key” Arena.......” said @bridgerwon.

“Horrifically bad name. Still going to support though. Definitely makes me feel like green is going to be the main color in the scheme,” tweeted @xJesturr.

“What about “I Jeff Bezos Could Personally Make A Huge Impact On Climate Change By Using My Own Money Arena”?” said @carynrose.

“This name is extremely dumb and I hate it,” tweeted @seapara929.

Not lost on sports fans in and around Seattle is the fact that Washington’s state former NBA team, the Seattle SuperSonics, who played in the Western Conference from 1967 until 2008, were relocated to Oklahoma City and now play as the Oklahoma City Thunder.

”You can call it that as long as Bezos brings the Sonics back, deal?” said @JennxGoHawks.
