Three people tried to scale US-Mexico border wall. They got stuck on top, agents say

Border Patrol agents in San Diego, California, say they rescued three people who were trying to climb over the US-Mexico border wall, according to a press release.

Agents saw a man and two women trying “to enter the U.S. illegally by climbing San Diego Sector’s new 30-foot, steel bollard wall,” the release said. The three then got stuck at the top after they were abandoned by smugglers about midnight on Sunday.

The San Diego Fire Department was called to help them get down safely, using a ladder from its truck. Agents say they questioned the man, 36, and two women, ages 20 and 18, once they got onto the ground and they were all Mexican nationals, according to the release.

The three were taken to a Border Patrol station to be processed, the release said.

“These three were very fortunate to not have fallen from the top of the wall, which could have resulted in serious injury or death,” San Diego Sector’s Acting Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said in the release. “These dangers are not important considerations to smugglers, who place an emphasis on profits over safety.”
