Officials announced the closure of part of Idaho 55 shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Boise County Sheriff’s Office said Idaho 55 lanes were closed in both directions near mile post 93, south of Smith’s Ferry and Cascade.

Law enforcement was assisting with a vehicle that crashed into the Payette River, according to a sheriff’s office social media post.

“At this time, it is unknown when the roadway will reopen,” the sheriff’s office said. “Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.”

Law enforcement asked drivers to slow down, watch for emergency personnel working at the scene and plan for delays.

The Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Valley County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police were at the scene of the accident.
