16-year-old motorcyclist dies in Memorial Day crash at Idaho recreation area
A teenage motorcyclist died in a crash Monday at the Clay Peak motorcycle park, the Payette County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Emergency dispatchers were informed of the accident at about 11:40 a.m. Monday. The rider sustained “severe head injuries,” according to a 911 caller.
First responders treated the victim and called for an air ambulance, but the teenager died at the scene, the release said. Payette County Coroner Ethan Mittelstadt told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday that the teen was 16 years old, a change from the age released by the Sheriff’s Office.
No other information about the victim has been released. The Sheriff’s Office would likely release the teen’s name once the autopsy is complete, Mittelstadt said by phone.
Clay Peak Recreation Area is off of Idaho 52 in Payette. It features 2 miles of motorcycle and ATV trails spread across 200 acres.
