Five people sent to hospital in three-vehicle crash near Payette

A three-vehicle crash north of Payette left five people hospitalized on Saturday afternoon.

A 44-year-old Caldwell man was driving a Jeep north on U.S. Highway 95 when he swerved into the southbound lanes at about 3:27 p.m. at mile marker 72, according to an Idaho State Police news release.

A southbound Honda Accord then swerved in an attempt to avoid the Jeep, and hit a Honda Ridgeline head-on in the northbound lane, according to police.

Police said the 18-year-old Weiser man driving the Accord and his juvenile passenger were flown by air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The 49-year-old Boise man driving the Ridgeline and his two juvenile passengers were taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

No one in the Jeep was injured.

Law enforcement closed the highway’s northbound lanes for more than an hour.

Idaho State Police is investigating the accident.
