Caldwell is slated to start construction on the city’s Kimball Bridge on Monday, meaning detours will reroute traffic downtown.

Kimball Avenue will be closed between Blaine and Arthur streets during construction, which is expected to wrap by Sept. 18, the city said in a press release.

The short span over Indian Creek was built in two parts, the city said, with the oldest section dating to the 1930s. That puts the bridge at “the end of its lifespan,” the city said on Facebook. The replacement will look much the same, open to vehicles and pedestrians.

During construction, the city says to expect:

  • The Kimball Avenue closure
  • Car and pedestrian detours
  • Lane and parking closures on Blaine Street
  • Street parking restrictions

Customers will still be able to access nearby businesses, “but your route may change,” the city said.

Traffic on Kimball will be routed along Blaine or Chicago streets to 5th or 10th avenues to circumvent construction. Pedestrians can cross the stream on 9th Avenue or via the footbridge near City Hall.

“The new bridge is expected to serve the City of Caldwell for many years to come,” the city stated.
