A high school student was hospitalized Friday after being hit by a vehicle in Kuna, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office and Kuna School District.

Just before 7:30 a.m., deputies in Kuna were dispatched to the intersection of North Kay and East Porter streets for a report of a crash involving the teen, Ada County Sheriff’s Deputy Lauren Montague, a spokesperson for the agency, told the Idaho Statesman.

The student was on a scooter and was struck by the vehicle at a crosswalk, according to the Kuna School District. The crash occurred within walking distance of several public schools, including Kuna High School.

Idaho News 6 first reported on the crash.

The 15-year-old was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Montague said. The driver was cited with inattentive driving, which is a misdemeanor and carries of fine of up to $300. Someone who is convicted of the charge can also be sentenced to up to 90 days in jail, under state law.
