He led Idaho police on a 71-mile chase at 100 mph on I-84. How it finally ended

For a while, it seemed as if neither police in pursuit nor spike strips could stop him.

An Oregon man on Monday led Idaho state troopers on a 71-mile chase on Interstate 84 from Elmore County west to Payette County, authorities said in a news release.

According to Idaho State Police:

The 29-year-old driver from Salem began the chase at mile marker 80, roughly halfway between Boise and Mountain Home.

Driving a Toyota Highlander SUV, the man traveled over 100 mph and drove around several spike strips before he finally ran over a set of the tire spikes at about mile marker 9, south of Fruitland. That caused him to swerve and crash into the freeway’s median.

The driver was charged with felony eluding, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and an outstanding felony warrant.

Multiple local law-enforcement agencies assisted with the pursuit. The incident remains under investigation.
