Beware of downtown Boise traffic congestion after BSU football game
If you’re headed to the Boise State University football game or just headed downtown Saturday evening, best to avoid Capital Boulevard.
After a geothermal water line broke Wednesday afternoon, the City of Boise closed Capitol Boulevard between Myrtle Street and Broad Street and closed two Myrtle Street lanes.
There’s also additional work on Capitol Boulevard between River Street and Myrtle Street.
Expect traffic to be heavier than usual between University Drive and Front Street after the 5:30 p.m. Boise State football game, the Ada County Highway District stated in a Facebook post.
ACHD encourages drivers using the Brady Street Parking Garage to take a detour and turn left from University Drive onto Capitol Boulevard, going southbound toward Vista Avenue.
The post stated that a special traffic pattern will also be in place on Saturday evening to help manage congestion.
Two lanes on Capitol Boulevard will be directed onto Myrtle Street. Use the right lane to head eastbound toward Broadway Avenue and the left lane to access Front Street via Fifth Street.
Crosswalks on the north and east side of the Capitol Boulevard and Myrtle Street intersection will remain closed, according to the ACHD. Pedestrians should cross Myrtle on the west side of the intersection.
The ACHD also encourages game-goers to use the Valley Regional Transit or carpool to the game.
“We’re reminding everyone traveling through the downtown area to anticipate long delays,” the ACHD stated in the post. “As always, PLEASE follow all traffic and safety devices.”
