Idaho 55 blocked for 12 hours after fatal crash Saturday into Payette River
One person died after a vehicle went into the river along Idaho 55 over the weekend.
A 45-year-old Caldwell man was driving north on the highway when his Ford truck “left the roadway on the right shoulder” at about 6 p.m. Saturday, Idaho State Police said in a news release.
Police said the driver overcorrected, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck fell down an embankment and into the Payette River near mile marker 79, north of Banks.
After escaping the vehicle, the driver died at the scene, according to the release. First responders transported the 25-year-old male passenger to a local hospital by air ambulance.
All Idaho 55 lanes were blocked for about 12 hours.
Idaho State Police is investigating the accident. State police were assisted Saturday by the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Garden Valley EMS and Fire, Horseshoe Bend Fire Department, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue, Life Flight Network and Idaho Transportation Department.
