Part of Overland Road in Boise closes. Police warn water is flooding roadway

Boise police announced the closure of part of Overland Road because of flooding shortly before noon Thursday.
Boise police announced the closure of part of Overland Road because of flooding shortly before noon Thursday.

Officials closed part of West Overland Road to traffic following a water line break. Emergency repairs are underway as water services have been shut off for about 60 customers in the area.

The road is expected to stay closed in some capacity well into the night.

A spokesperson for the provider, Veolia Water, told the Idaho Statesman in an email that it is too soon to know when the road will be open and water restored to customers, but crews will be working until at least late in the evening.

Currently, the crew is still working on excavating down to the pipe to find the exact break, the company stated.

The Boise Police Department warned drivers at 11:41 a.m. Thursday to avoid the West Overland Road South and South Vinnell Street area, near Walmart, according to a social media post.

Boise police and fire departments were at the scene. Police said “Overland Road is completely shut down” in that area because water was “flooding the roadway.”

“We apologize for the inconvenience — we understand the impact this road closure and break has on our customers and the community,” Veolia Water said in a news release. “We ask that people respect the detours so we can complete repairs as quickly and safely as possible, and get the roadway reopened ASAP.”
