Driver dies after running stop sign in Treasure Valley. Passenger hospitalized

A Canyon County crash left one person dead and another hospitalized Sunday morning.

A 36-year-old man was driving west on Bowmont Road at about 6:32 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign at a three-way intersection with Dry Lake Road, just north of Melba, the Idaho State Police said in a news release.

Police said the vehicle left the roadway at the intersection and came to a stop in an embankment.

The driver died from his injuries at the scene, according to police. Law enforcement said Canyon County paramedics took a 19-year-old male passenger to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Both people involved were from Mexico, police said.

Idaho State Police is investigating the accident, with assistance at the scene from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.
