One person killed, another hospitalized following Elmore County semitrailer accident
One person was killed and another hospitalized following a crash in Elmore County on Thursday morning.
A 32-year-old man from Istanbul, Turkey, was driving a Nissan Rogue north on Idaho Highway 167 at 6:10 a.m. when he “passed an unknown vehicle in the no-passing zone,” Idaho State Police said in a news release.
As he entered the other lane, he struck a Western Star Cattle Hauler semitrailer driven by a 70-year-old man from Mountain Home, according to police.
Police said the Nissan driver died from his injuries at the scene, just north of Grandview. First responders transported the semi driver to a local hospital for treatment, according to police.
The highway was blocked for about five hours after the accident as emergency units worked the scene. The incident is being investigated by Idaho State Police.
