Part of Interstate 84 in Canyon County closes after semitrailer catches fire

A section of Interstate 84 remained closed Thursday morning following a vehicle fire in northern Canyon County.

A 30-year-old man from Vancouver, Washington, was driving a commercial semitruck east on I-84 when his trailer caught fire at 11:58 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 21, north of Galloway Road, state police said in a news release.

Officials closed the interstate’s eastbound lanes after the incident. They remained closed as of 9 a.m., according to Idaho State Police Dispatch.

Police said law enforcement was diverting traffic to Old Highway 30 off the Sand Hollow exit at mile marker 17.

The driver was not injured, according to police.

State police are investigating the incident and were assisted at the scene by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, Middleton Police Department, Middleton Star Fire District, Caldwell Fire Department, Idaho Transportation Department and the Sand Hollow Fire Protection District.
