Treasure Valley car crash leaves Meridian man dead, another driver hospitalized

A Canyon County car accident east of Caldwell left one person from the Boise area dead and another driver hospitalized on Tuesday night.

A 37-year-old Meridian man was driving a Kia Sportage north on Franklin Road just before 10 p.m. when he failed to yield to a stop sign at the U.S. Highway 20-26 intersection, Idaho State Police said in a news release.

The Kia collided with a Ford truck driven by a 21-year-old woman from Templeton, California, the release said.

Police said the Kia driver died from his injuries at the scene. The Ford driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, police said.

The Canyon County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.

The roadway was closed for about three hours after the accident as emergency responders, including Idaho State Police, the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office and Canyon County Paramedics, worked at the crash site.

Idaho State Police is investigating the incident.
