Update: Police reopen I-84 following investigation and cleanup of two Nampa crashes

Update: As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nampa police reported all lanes of I-84 had reopened.

Officials closed part of Interstate 84 west of Boise after two vehicle crashes Tuesday morning.

The Nampa Police Department warned drivers that all westbound I-84 lanes were closed for five miles in Nampa between Garrity Boulevard and the Karcher Connector.

Traffic was being detoured off Garrity, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

“You will be diverted off the interstate while the crash is being investigated and cleaned up,” the department said on social media. “Due to the nature of the crash, it is going to take some time.”

Nampa police cautioned drivers, saying the roads were slick.

The first crash closed three miles of I-84 at about 7:20 a.m., then a second crash extended the closure shortly after 8 a.m.

Nampa police did not immediately respond to the Idaho Statesman’s request for additional information.
