Update: Officials reopen Interstate 84 near Idaho border after vehicle crash closure

Update: The Oregon Department of Transportation confirmed that officials had reopened all roadways by 12:30 p.m.

Oregon officials closed a section of Interstate 84 in Eastern Oregon after a vehicle crash Thursday morning.

The Oregon Department of Transportation announced at 7:30 a.m. that it had closed westbound traffic lanes on Interstate 84 between Exit 265 in La Grande and Exit 374 in Ontario.

As of 9:30 a.m., I-84 was reopened to passenger vehicles between Ontario and Baker City, department spokesperson Vicki Moles told the Idaho Statesman.

The section between Baker City and La Grande remained closed.

Officials also closed U.S. Highway 30 between Baker City and North Powder, with crews on the ground helping direct local traffic, according to Moles.

The department advised drivers to “expect extended delays,” prepare for winter road conditions and avoid travel if possible.

“Stay on main highways and avoid following GPS navigation devices, as they could lead you onto routes that are in worse condition or not maintained during winter,” the department said in a news release before the reopening for cars.

The department said it would provide travel updates at tripcheck.com.
