One person died and two others were hospitalized Sunday after a car went airborne, crashed into a home’s chimney and landed on the roof of another house in south Nampa.

The Canyon County Coroner’s Office identified the victim on Monday afternoon as Jose Teran Chaparro, 31, of Nampa.

At 9:12 a.m. Sunday, emergency units responded to the 1000 block of East Amity Avenue to find a car with three adults in it on top of a house, the Nampa Police Department said in a news release.

While the investigation remains ongoing, police said preliminary evidence indicated that the vehicle was heading west on East Amity Avenue at a “high rate of speed” when it “failed to navigate a curve” at South Diamond Street.

The car hit a berm in a private yard and went airborne, striking the chimney of one home before landing on the roof of a second home, according to police.

Officials pronounced the man riding in the front passenger seat dead at the scene.

The coroner said Chaparro died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, with the manner of death listed as accidental.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time,” Canyon County Coroner Jennifer Crawford said in a news release.

Paramedics took the driver and the back seat passenger to Boise-area hospitals to be treated for injuries.

Police said no one inside either home was injured, but the houses sustained “extensive damage.”

No other vehicles were involved.

Damage to power lines caused nearby homes to lose power, police said.

Police suspect the vehicle failed to navigate a turn in the roadway.
