Ada County coroner IDs 65-year-old Nampa pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle

The Ada County Coroner’s Office has identified a 65-year-old man who died after being struck by a vehicle.

Michael Lee Staelens, of Nampa, was struck by a vehicle around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Caldwell Boulevard, according to a news release from the Nampa Police Department. The crash was near a shopping center northwest of downtown Nampa.

Staelens was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where he died after life-saving measures were unsuccessful, according to a report from the Coroner’s Office. He was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Coroner’s Office reported Staelens’ cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries and ruled his death an accident.

Nampa police said the crash is still under investigation and asked anyone to leave Nampa Police Officer Angela Phillips, who worked for the department’s traffic unit, a voicemail at 208-468-5643. Anyone who leaves a voicemail is asked to leave their name and phone number.
