A four-car crash on Interstate 84 sent two drivers to the hospital.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday on the eastbound side of the highway near mile marker 41. It started when the rear bumper of a Toyota fell off, the Idaho State Police said in a news release.

Two cars ran over the bumper and pulled over to the left shoulder. Then a fourth car hit one of those cars, police said.

The 45-year-old female Mountain Home driver of the Mitsubishi that pulled over and the 31-year-old male Boise driver of the Kia that hit her car were taken to the hospital by ambulance, police said.

The state police said they are investigating the incident. They did not name any of the drivers involved.

The crash shut down three lanes for about two and a half hours, according to police.
