Fellow night owls who are thinking about taking one of the Federal Way ramps along Broadway Avenue in Boise should think again.

The Idaho Transportation Department said the two ramps, which drop drivers off on South Federal Way or North Capitol Boulevard, will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting on Sunday, May 21. The overnight closures are planned for six days and are expected to wrap up on May 26.

The department said they are replacing “deteriorated pavement” along the ramps and other highways that will be closed later this summer.

“We are asking the community to bear with us during periods of nighttime noise and traffic delays,” ITD Design and Construction Engineer Daris Bruce said in a news release. “ITD is scheduling this work at night to keep all lanes open during the busy daytime hours. Our goal is to work quickly and move to the next location.”

Detour routes will be marked for each route, and speed limits are expected to be reduced at night, the release said.

The Transportation Department also said in the news release more work along Broadway Avenue, that the majority of paving, will take place in late June. The crews also need to address damage that occurred last year at the intersection of Broadway and Boise avenues because of a water main failure. In December, roads near the intersection were closed for about a day and some residents’ water was affected.

Aside from the work on Broadway Avenue, ITD is also expected to replace pavement along three other highways this summer:

  • Glenwood Street between Chinden Boulevard and State Street;
  • Chinden Boulevard between Cloverdale and Eagle roads; and
  • The exit from River Street on the I-184 Connector.

Information about work locations and schedule updates will be posted on the Transportation Department’s website. Individuals can also request updates by texting “REPAVING” to 1-866-483-8422.
