‘Unimaginable tragedy’: Payette women identified following fatal car crash
The two Payette women who died in a crash along Interstate 86 were remembered as “the most selfless mother and her beautiful daughter.”
The Cassia County Coroner’s Office identified Jessica Ross, 47, and Janice Reay, 26, as the two women who died at the scene of the crash, Coroner Craig Rinehart told the Idaho Statesman by phone.
“There are times when words simply fail to convey the depth of sorrow experienced,” according to a GoFundMe page created for the families. “This is one of those times.”
“An unimaginable tragedy claimed the lives of the most selfless mother and her beautiful daughter,” the post continued.
At around 1:40 p.m. Friday, Ross was driving east along I-86 in a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe when the SUV went off the right shoulder, swerved and came back onto the road, Idaho State Police previously said in a news release. But police said that Ross overcorrected, drove off the roadway again and hit a culvert, causing the vehicle to roll.
The two other passengers, a 71-year-old Fruitland woman and a 26-year-old Payette woman, were taken to a local hospital, police said. They were identified by the GoFundMe page as Ross’ mother and daughter.
The GoFundMe page, which has surpassed its $15,000 goal, is asking for donations to help with funeral expenses along with the “massive financial implications” involved with a car crash.
“The impact they made on this world and the genuine love they had for not only their families and their friends, but even strangers, was immeasurable. The world is a little darker today,” Stephanie King wrote in the GoFundMe post. “And while there will be time to grieve and celebrate the incredible lives they lived, we know if Jessica were here today, she’d tell us to focus on her mother and her daughter.”
