Thursday night I-184 wreck in Boise involved wrong-way driver. There also was I-84 crash

A two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 184 Connector into downtown Boise brought eastbound traffic to a standstill for over two hours Thursday night, and an accident on I-84 eastbound also closed all lanes and sent people to the hospital.

The Connector wreck involved a wrong-way driver and occurred not long after 9 p.m. between the Curtis Road exit and Cole Road, according to PulsePoint and the 511 Idaho website, and a later tweet from Idaho State Police.

A 33-year-old Boise man was driving a Toyota westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-184 and collided with a Nissan, according to a news release from Idaho State Police. The Nissan was driven by a 22-year-old Meridian man.

Both drivers, who were wearing seat belts, were taken to a local hospital. The severity of their injures was not immediately known Friday.

Idaho State Police and the Boise Police Department, emergency medical services and the Boise Fire Department responded with multiple units and vehicles Thursday night. State police are investigating, the release said.

The westbound lanes of the Connector stayed open Thursday night.

Interstate 84 crash

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 sent two people to the hospital, ISP said in a separate news release. This happened less than an hour after authorities responded to the collision on the Boise Connector.

A 20-year-old Houston man was driving eastbound near milepost 49 in a Chevrolet passenger van at around 10 p.m. when he hit the rear end of a Saturn, police said, which caused the vehicle to hit the barrier and stop. The Saturn was driven by a 43-year-old Garden City man.

After striking the Saturn, the van “rolled and came to rest in the roadway,” police said. The Houston man wasn’t wearing a seat belt but the driver of the Saturn was, police said.

The collision blocked all of the eastbound lanes; state police are still investigating.
