Accident involving multiple semitrailers on Idaho I-84 in Meridian backs up traffic

Traffic Alert

An accident on westbound Interstate 84 on Wednesday evening caused traffic delays, according to Idaho State Police.

Police said on Twitter that the wreck involved multiple semitrailers and took place near milepost 45 on I-84, just past Eagle Road, at about 6:30 p.m.

In a news release at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, Idaho State Police said two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were blocked while it worked to clear the scene and remove all three vehicles that were involved.

Police said a Peterbilt semi driven by a 74-year-old Nampa man struck the rear of a van being driven by a Boise man. The semi then moved into the median, where it struck a stationary semitrailer that was hauling potatoes. A 30-year-old Caldwell man was the driver of that semi.

The Boise PulsePoint website indicated that Ada County EMS, fire engines and a hazardous materials team responded.

There was no information as to when all lanes would be open, and ISP said it was still investigating.
