Woman, 78, dies after being struck by vehicle on Chinden Boulevard in Garden City

The Garden City Police Department said a 78-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle Tuesday night on Chinden Boulevard and died at the scene.

Police said in a news release that they responded just after 7 p.m. to Chinden near Millstone Drive and found that the woman had been struck by a westbound vehicle. An investigation showed she had lost property from the bed of her pickup truck and was attempting to get it out of the road when she was hit, according to the release.

The vehicle that struck the woman was rear-ended by another car traveling westbound, police said.

Garden City police and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction team were investigating Tuesday night, and the westbound lanes of Chinden Boulevard were closed. Police asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.

The victim’s identity has not been released. Authorities were working to notify family.
