Coroner identifies 2 Boise drivers killed on I-84. One was going wrong way, police say

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 east of Eagle Road early Tuesday morning left two Boise residents dead, police said.

At 1:19 a.m., Irving Velasquez Barajas, 29, was driving a Toyota Corolla the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of I-84, according to news releases from Idaho State Police and the Ada County coroner. Biruk Woldesenbet, 38, was driving a Hyundai Sonata eastbound. The vehicles collided and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Both Barajas and Woldesenbet sustained multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner. They were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Traffic on eastbound I-84 was blocked for roughly 2 ½ hours, according to the police release. The incident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
