Feel those chills in Idaho? Shop for new-to-you gear, sell some stuff at Boise Ski Swap

Hey, Boise, who is super pumped to sport a windburned face after spending an entire day at Bogus Basin? Don’t worry, my precious powder hounds, the time to bust out skis and snowboards will be here before we know it.

In the meantime, as you eagerly count down the days until winter fun, it might be a good idea to check out the situation with your current gear, clothing and equipment.

Have you been tearin’ up the mountain on a board that clearly screams “so last season” and feel deserving of an upgrade? Well, instead of hoarding your old board to collect dust, consider selling it at a place that gets major foot traffic and put that money toward the new stuff.

The 71st annual Ski Swap is coming up Nov. 4-6 at Expo Idaho, 5610 N. Glewnood St., Garden City. Sellers can check in items for sale from 2 to 8 p.m. Nov 3, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 4 and 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 5.

So go through your closets, garage or storage, and bring in your old skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, snowshoes and clothing (snow pants, coats, etc). You decide the price of items. Everything that sells during the swap, Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation (BBSEF) will keep 25 percent as commission and cut you a check for the rest.

BBSEF’s mission is to “provide access to competitive Mountain Sports programs for the youth of the Treasure Valley,” according to its website.

Now for those looking to refresh their gear, avoid the sticker shock and shop new-to-you equipment during the Ski Swap sale hours: 1 to 10 p.m. Nov. 4, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 5, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 6.

There is a $5 admission. However, bring a canned food donation for the Boise Rescue Mission on Sunday and get in free. There is no charge for children 17 and younger.
