Are you a fan of competition shows such as “American Idol,” “America’s Got Talent,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Voice”?

Well, switch up that watch-on-your-couch experience for an up-close, in-person night out, all while supporting local talent and raising funds in the battle against a rare genetic disorder.

The Idaho Talent Fest will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the Nampa Civic Center, 311 3rd St. S., Nampa.

The second annual competition showcases local residents performing a variety of acts, from singing and dancing to playing an instrument or doing stand-up comedy.

Finalists, who were announced on March 1, will give it their all in front of judges and a live audience for cash prizes ($1,000 for first place, $500 for second, $250 for third). Attendees will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite act to determine first, second and third place of the People’s Choice awards.

The event will benefit the Idaho Chapter of the FSHD Society to fund research and raise awareness for fascioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSH muscular dystrophy), “a genetic disorder that leads to the weakening of skeletal muscles,” according to its website.

Tickets are $15-$25 at ICTickets. There is a $20 VIP option (available for add-on to the $25 ticket price), which includes premium seating and entrance to the preshow reception at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and an opportunity to mingle with the judges and hosts Rick and Carly from 96.1 BOB FM.

For more information, go to IdahoTalentFest.org. The website has a list of this year’s finalists, as well as an opportunity to vote for your favorite and support the cause via livestream.
