Still have that Christmas tree? Recycle it to give it a second life in Nampa parks

Well, 2021 is behind us. With 2022 comes a much-needed fresh start. Out with the old, in with the new, right?

Speaking of old, how many of you are still holding on to that Christmas tree? Whether it’s still up because you have a hard time saying goodbye to the festive season or you are just a procrastinator and dread the act of de-Christmasing your house, it is definitely time to give that tree the boot.

And if your tree is out of your home but still chillin’ outside your house, it’s equally time to get it off your property.

When considering disposal, a tree that brought such joy and warmth to cap a very difficult year deserves more than just decomposing in a landfill, so return the favor and give your tree a new life by recycling it.

Kohlerlawn Cemetery, located at 76 6th St. N. in Nampa, is still accepting Christmas trees for recycling now through Saturday, Jan. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Drop your tree off for free at the designated site within the cemetery (follow directional signs on Weamer Lane). Just make sure all lights, ornaments, stands, tinsel and other decorations are removed, of course, before disposal.

What’s to become of your tree that beautified your home this past holiday? It will be chipped and made into mulch to enrich Nampa’s walking paths and tree wells in parks.

The Ada County Landfill recycles Christmas trees, but the last day to drop them off for free was Jan. 7. Just to clarify, you are still more than welcome to dump your tree at the landfill, but disposal rates will apply.
