Tipping is still possible during virtual Alive After Five to benefit Boise charities

COVID-19 has put a stop to many things — mass gatherings, mask-free faces, social fun in general.

But it can’t stop tradition — well, at least this tradition.

Tips for Charity, a program in which all beverage tips at Alive After Five benefit a different nonprofit each month, goes hand-in-hand with the annual concert series. And although the music has gone virtual in the age of the coronavirus, opportunities to give back to organizations are still viable.

For instance, tips can be donated at the Downtown Boise Association’s booth on The Grove Plaza from 4:30 p.m.to 6 p.m. each Wednesday when you are purchasing your “experience kit” prior to streaming the concert.

A what kit? The DBA is selling beer, wine, T-shirts, hats, stainless steel branded cups, koozies and other merch to provide your at-home party with a similar experience to the in-person event.

Not planning on buying a kit? No problem. You can donate via Venmo (@TipsForCharity) or on the Alive After Five page at downtownboise.org.

All tips collected in July will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho, which “supports families of ill or injured children by keeping them together in times of medical need.”

August’s beneficiary will be the Boise Fire Local 149 Burnout Fund, which “provides immediate informational and financial assistance to families and individuals who are impacted by fire and other disasters in Boise.”
