FitOne goes virtual because of coronavirus, still benefits St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital
With the current coronavirus outbreak, we’ve all noticed the trend of organized events going virtual to protect the health and safety of the community.
We can still partake in our favorite activities. We just have to figure out new ways to do so.
So to comply with the guidelines surrounding mass gatherings, the annual St. Luke’s FitOne will adapt from an in-person fitness celebration to a virtual event.
The 5k, 10k and half-marathon event was originally scheduled to take place in Boise on Sept. 26, with the Healthy Living Expo on Sept. 24-25. But now participants can complete their socially distant run anytime between Sept. 18 and Sept. 26, choosing from a designed course or the “run anywhere” option at registration.
Additionally, “instead of a three-day event, race organizers are planning a series of online challenges and events leading up to race week in September,” according to a press release.
Other details are still being worked out.
“While the event will look different this year, we’re excited to try something creative that will not only capture the attention and participation of past participants, but also inspire a new group of people to join in the fun,” Eric Stride, executive director of St. Luke’s FitOne, said in a press release.
The event turning virtual is not the only change. The registration date has also been tweaked. Usually launching on National Running Day in June, the registration kickoff is now July 8-9. On those two days, all registration will be $20 for any distance (5k, 10k or half-marathon). Children 12 and younger are free with a paid adult.
The entry fees will continue to benefit St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, along with community health initiatives aimed at children and families. About $648,000 has been raised to date.
Registration will be available online at FitOneBoise.org. Continue to check the website for additional announcements and details to be released in the coming weeks.
