Go cycling on your terms to raise money, help Idahoans living with Lou Gehrig’s disease

ALS Virtual Ride
ALS Virtual Ride

May was ALS Awareness Month. The annual Tour d’Funk Ride to Defeat ALS originally scheduled for May 30 is still taking place this summer, but it’s going virtual. Shocker.

Although many of us miss the act of riding with fellow cyclists, restructuring a physical ride into a virtual option has its advantages and it still helps the cause, which is the whole point, right?

So the pros:

Pick when you want to ride. There is no set date, per se. Just accomplish your ride anytime from now through July 25.

Choose where you ride and for how long.

Having all the control means finding a day and route that make you feel the most comfortable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Registration is free, but riders are encouraged to raise a minimum of $150 by July 25 to raise awareness of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and support those living with it. Prizes will be given away for participation and fundraising.

The money raised will benefit the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter, which “helps fund services for locals living with ALS like clinic referrals, free equipment loans and support groups.”

“We are thankful to the ride participants in the Treasure Valley area who raise funds to help improve the lives of patients afflicted with this devastating disease,” said Pauline Proulx, executive director of the Evergreen Chapter, in a release. “We would not be able to provide the services and care to local ALS patients without our donors’ engagement and support.”
