Be Brrrave! Take the plunge to grant wishes to kids

Ready to take a splish-splash in some ice cold waters to give critically ill children a game-changing experience?

Challenge accepted! What better way to kick off 2020 than with a huge altruistic gesture.

The 17th annual Great Polar Bear Challenge is Jan. 1 at Lucky Peak Reservoir and Spring Shores Marina, 74 Arrowrock Road, Boise.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the plunge going down at 11 a.m.

And what exactly is the plunge?

Basically getting yourself into those icy waters by either jumping, water skiing, wakeboarding, frolicking, what have you.

I know, I can hear your teeth chattering already. But afterwards you can warm your bones with coffee and hot chocolate that will be available.

And if you focus on the bigger picture — your temporary discomfort will make an everlasting impression on a local child — then it really takes the sting away.

Your courage to endure the elements will benefit Make-a-Wish Idaho, which grants wishes to children in Idaho with life-threatening medical conditions. Last year, the event raised $56,000

So psych yourself up to help the kids!

And if your feeling extra, dress up for the costume contest.

The event is free, but participants are asked to fundraise a minimum of $50. Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers.

And, as always, spectators are welcome.
